BACKSLIDER

Hey, y’all.

I’m proud of myself for completing another 30 poems in 30 days for National Poetry Writing Month! Each time I participate in the #napowrimo challenge, I feel more creative, grounded, and inspired. I feel compelled to continue writing each day—in journals, phone Notes, and this blog.

Here’s a poem I wrote today:

BACKSLIDER

I don’t wanna worship with my oppressors—

prey praying hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder

with one eye open.

“Love thy neighbor.”

But I love my peace.

God is still working on me.
