#napowrimo Day 13 - “Elegant Gladiator”

Hey y’all. I’m almost halfway through National Poetry Month. Each day, the writing gets a little easier to do. Today’s prompt is to write a poem that, joyfully states that “Everything is Going to Be Amazing.” Here’s my poem:

Day 13 - ELEGANT GLADIATOR

Girl! Don’t worry about how they misunderstand you. You better keep bein’ you 

cuz we fought too hard to be fake, tried on

identities for play-play, but always came back

to this. Girl, you the sh*t.

I see you second-guessing yourself. Still questioning 

if your gut is worth your trust. Yeah, 

your gut be twisted up, but everything can’t maintain its posture like you. You can’t even

maintain your posture like you. 

You better trust your body!

Girl, I’m not gonna tell you again to 

replace your sighs of frustration with yourself with affirmations of love. 

How you gonna give out all that love and save

yourself none? You better 

tell yourself that everything is gonna be amazing! 

Look around you—it already is.

You are an elegant gladiator, 

sporting thick muscles, heavy armor, and lots of heart. 

Girl, you got heart how you come up 

from the dirt scarred, heal, 

and return to fight.You gotta come back to fight.
