FORGIVENESS (Poem)

Hey, y’all.

The writing prompt for Day 16 of National Poetry Writing Month is to write a poem that involves describing something in terms of what it is not, or not like. Here’s my poem:

FORGIVENESS

By Farah Lawal Harris, © 2023

It is not that you deserve it

Nah, I’ve wished for

the worst things to happen to you

and you alone,

wished you reincarnation

so in your next life,

you to suffer again.

It is not moral high ground

from which I stand

It is from

crawling through depression

to bended knee in prayer.

I put the weight down.

I can’t carry hate or ill will

if I wanna heal.

I hope you heal.
