HORROR FLICKS (Poem)

Hey y’all!

For Day 19 of National Poetry Writing Month, the prompt is to cast your mind back to your own childhood and write a poem about something that scared you – or was used to scare you – and which still haunts you (if only a little bit) today.

Here’s my poem:

HORROR FLICKS

By Farah Lawal Harris, © 2023

I grew up at a time when

horror flicks

were watched by kids.

80s movies featured

gore and tits.

My fave

was A Nightmare

on Elm Street.

There’s something about Freddy!

The fact that he

could change face and body

scared the shit out of me.

But soon

it became funny.

I live at a time when

horror flicks

are enacted on kids.
