WISH YOU WERE HERE
Hey, y’all!
For Day 7 of National Poetry Writing Month, the prompt is to:
Write a poem titled “Wish You Were Here” that takes its inspiration from the idea of a postcard. Consistent with the abbreviated format of a postcard, your poem should be short, and should play with the idea of travel, distance, or sightseeing. If you’re having trouble getting started, perhaps you’ll find some inspiration in these images of vintage postcards.
Here’s my poem:
WISH YOU WERE HERE
By Farah Lawal Harris
The sun breaks through storm clouds and forms
double rainbows like echoes in the sky.
I stopped asking “Why?”
and started saying “Thank you” when I see you
as beams of light.
Here is heavy sometimes.
I wish you were here.
