#napowrimo Day 9 - “Perfect”

Here I am with my last-minute poem for the day. The #napowrimo prompt for today is write a poem in the style of a nonet. A nonet has nine lines. The first line has nine syllables, the second has eight, and so on until you get to the last line, which has just one syllable. Here’s my poem:

Day 9 - PERFECT

By Farah Lawal Harris

i thought: if i make myself perfect

i’ll be worthy of like and love,

stranger to abuse and hate.

perfect was the bar, set

before i could crawl.

now i stand tall

enough to

erase

it.
