#napowrimo Day 10 - “Romantic Love”

For Day 10 of National Poetry Month, the prompt is to write a love poem. 🥰 Here is mine:

Day 10 - ROMANTIC LOVE

By Farah Lawal Harris

romantic love ran from me.

i was always the homie—

cool enough to hang with,

but not claim.

platonic sis.

romantic love mocked me:

nighttime “WYD” texts

when they didn’t “GAF” for real.

daytime squeaky third wheel.

romantic love asked my permission.

assuredly.

you asked my permission.

my breath quickened.

would you think i was too much?

I sighed.

how will i know if i don’t try?

i offered a slice.

you cleaned your plate.

asked for seconds.

assuredly.

“Yes,” i replied.
