#napowrimo Day 4 - “How to Grow a Poem”

Hey, beautiful people. Day 4 of National Poetry Month’s prompt was to write a poem in the form of a poetry prompt. Here it is:

Day 4 - HOW TO GROW A POEM

By Farah Lawal Harris

  1. Open an empty page or document.

  2. Discard your thoughts, especially the ones that don’t connect.

  3. Don’t worry about being profound.

  4. Type until the truth comes out.

  5. Take a sip of uncomfortable.

  6. Swish around until it tastes vulnerable.

  7. Dig a hole.

  8. Spit out your words and water them in.

  9. Call a friend.

  10. Repent your sins.

  11. Begin again.

  12. Fertilize fancy words like delicate flowers.

  13. Allow pretty petals to drop to the earth.

  14. Remember that creativity takes work.

  15. Forgive yourself.

  16. Drink to good health.

  17. Shed a tear.

  18. Acknowledge fear.

  19. Revise.

  20. Thrive.

  21. Share if the spirit leads.

  22. Or quietly harvest your full-grown seeds.

  23. Believe.
