FRIENDS, FRIENDS, FRIENDS.

FRIENDS, FRIENDS, FRIENDS.

BY Farah Lawal Harris, 2025

1.

Friends,

how many of us have them

times when tragedy strikes

and the homie you expect

is nowhere in sight?

“Ride or die” is not always for life.

It is often during times of hell

that you are left all by yourself.

Most troubling is the ruminating,

the replaying of past conversations and tiffs,

invisible damage leading to abandonment.

But shifts in relationships are a gift,

space for other kind hearts to step in,

and the chance to be your own friend.

2.

To my friends who are angels,

I hope that every time I mention you, a star twinkles brighter in the sky.

I hope the headache won’t be so bad the next time I cry.

I hope every joke I tell makes you chuckle, too.

I wish you knew how much I loved you.

3.

A top Google search is “Why I have no friends.”

Top reasons include

social anxiety, disabilities,

psychological issues and moving somewhere new.

What would the world look like if

instead of being a spy, Google tried

to get everyone who searched this together

to be friends to each other?
