THE SUNSHINE

THE SUNSHINE

By Farah Lawal Harris, 2025

Everybody loves the sunshine,

especially this baldie queen

straight outta chemotherapy,

feelin like I just walked right outta heaven indeed.

My life, my life, my life, my life

ran at full speed til cancer hit me

smack dab in my right titty.

But bald, I was so pretty

especially when the sun hit meβ€”

in the breeze, among the bees,

my soul opened like yellow day lilies

in the sunshine.

Everybody loves the sunshine,

especially this cancer-free queen.

To reach age 40 was a blessing indeed.

I close my tear-filled eyes and thank Heavenly Father,

step barefoot onto cool clay and soft moss to thank Earthy Mother,

grateful for another day of life

to do what I do, when I do

in the sunshine.
