GIVE THANKS (Poem)

GIVE THANKS

By Farah Lawal Harris

To those who possess breasts,

give thanks.

Be grateful for

soft, warm flesh on chests, for

God-given armor guarding hearts, for

nipples that get hard when cold.

Though I lost my own in summer,

I shiver to consider

how the breasts I complained about

were cut off, replaced with

silicone, surgeon-given gifts

to guard my pride

and save my life.

I give thanks.
