#napowrimo Day 24 - “Inching”

Blessings to you all on this Sunday! On Day 24 of National Poetry Month, the prompt is to channel your inner gumshoe, and write a poem in which you describe something with a hard-boiled simile (i.e. as easy to miss as a brass band in a cathedral). Here’s my poem:

Day 24 - INCHING

By Farah Lawal Harris

She donned the same body she had at 24,

but some days, wore

the same aches and pains as a woman thrice her age.

She was creeping toward 40

at the pace and determination of an inchworm late for dinner all the way across town,

fighting not to get stepped on,

inching to stay alive.

Thank God she’s alive!
