#napowrimo Day 23 - “Narcissist”

I hope everyone is well.  On Day 23 of National Poetry Month, the prompt is to write a poem in the style of Kay Ryan, whose poems tend to be short and snappy – with a lot of rhyme and soundplay. Here’s my poem:

Day 23 - “NARCISSIST”

By Farah Lawal Harris

The term “narcissist”

is a weed

spreading through society

with roots too deep to pull.

But for this neurodivergent,

the question most urgent is

if bad behavior

can be labeled

mental illness

without a psychiatrist

to assess,

aren’t we all sick?
