TIRED OF SAD POEMS (Poem)

TIRED OF SAD POEMS

By Farah Lawal Harris, © 2023

I’m tired of writing sad poems,

tired of the reminder

that my existence is political.

Blackness is political.

Haven’t watched the news in years

cuz I was tired of donating tears

to everyone’s pain but my own.

Plus, I was tired of inviting Black deaths

into my home.

I’ve really grown,

which is why I’m tired of writing sad poems.

Now, I speak life unto myself.

I speak, therefore I am

and since I Am is love, so am I.

How’ bout we rest ‘til we ain’t tired?
