What Flower Represents You?

PURPLE PINCUSHION (Poem)

Aunt D asked us to text her what flower represents us. The one that represents me is the purple pincushion flower. The reason is because it's prolific. It's purple and regal. It attracts pollinators like butterflies and hummingbirds, land it multiplies. We have had cold temperatures, and it is growing green new stems as I speak. It's a resilient flower like me.

Last spring I didn't know what I was doing. I winged it but got it right. Under the compacted soil are so many critters that I used to scream at the sight of. Now I nod to them with gratitude. My soil is black like me. I am abundance. Piles of compost under all these leaves.

What y'all thought was dead, Spirit brought as protection. Each challenge I overcome becomes my legacy. For future generations, my beautiful family, they are everything. When I see beauty, it's merely my reflection shining back at me.

This spring, my driveway will be purple. Aligned with my energy. My gardening is offering.

Purple pincushion flowers pollinate. Abundant harvests every summer. And when leaves change color, purple pincushion flowers grow higher in the autumn.

I grow higher when I fall.
